A Note About the List

South Dakota also has special schools and additional higher-education locations. The South Dakota Board of Regents governs six public universities and two special schools. The special schools include the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the South Dakota School for the Deaf. These are not included in the main college and university count because they are specialized institutions.
